For the better part of four decades, Dallas Burton was an innovator in the dairy industry in the areas of sales, embryo and genetics promotion, and print and online marketing. From humble beginnings on a dairy farm in Chase County, Kansas, he first worked for the Kansas Holstein Association as a field secretary before eventually forming his own sales business.
As one half of the Burton-Fellers Sales team (along with Ed Fellers), he was on the forefront of marketing dairy genetics and embryo transfers. The company's annual E.T. Extravaganza sale became one of the Holstein industry's top destination sales during the 1980s and 1990s. He developed other keystone sales such as the Top Ten Sale and Stars of the Silent Screen Sale, along with managing numerous state sales, and was chosen year after year to handle the National Holstein Convention Sale in Madison, Wisconsin. Later, Dallas was the visionary leader and founder of DairyAgendaToday.com, one of the industry's first dairy news websites, while continuing to operate his own independent companies, Burton & Associates and Burton Consulting.
A beloved member of the dairy industry, Dallas passed away in 2015 at age 65. Gone long before his time, friends, family and colleagues remember him as a smart, caring and intelligent man who left the dairy industry in a better place than he found it. He is remembered mostly for his sense of humor, devotion to family, extensive knowledge of all things dairy, and razor-sharp business acumen.
