Dairy Legacy

DAIRY LEGACY OF DALLAS BURTON

Dallas Burton’s career in the dairy industry spanned more than four decades. From humble beginnings on a small family dairy farm in Chase County, Kansas, he rose to become one of the most influential figures in the Holstein breed — known for his unmatched expertise, innovative marketing, and lifelong passion for dairy cattle.

A natural storyteller with a magnetic personality, Dallas loved a good joke and a hearty laugh. Yet when it came to business, few could match his skill in crafting elite sales, designing standout catalogs, or dissecting complex pedigrees. He built deep, lasting relationships across the industry — from prominent breeders and judges to everyday family dairy farmers.

A Trailblazing Career

After graduating college in 1972, Dallas began his professional journey with the Kansas Holstein Association. He later co-managed a sale with Ed Fellers at Higher View Dairy, which led to the formation of the legendary Burton-Fellers Sales partnership.

Starting in 1980, Burton-Fellers Sales quickly became the premier dairy sales management team in the United States. The company helped modernize and revolutionize the industry by pioneering embryo transfer (E.T.) sales. Their annual E.T. Extravaganza became a highlight of the Holstein calendar, taking elite dairy events to memorable destinations including Hawaii, the Bahamas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Caribbean cruises, and a legendary Alaskan cruise.

Burton-Fellers also created and managed many of the industry’s most prestigious sales, including:

  • Agriprize High Profile
  • Branson Limited Edition
  • Top 10 Breeders Invitational
  • Legends of the Fall

The team was also entrusted with managing the National Holstein Convention Sale for many years.

Later Years and Lasting Impact

In 2009, after nearly 30 successful years together, Dallas and Ed amicably parted ways. Later that same year, Dallas launched DairyAgendaToday.com, one of the first major online news platforms dedicated to the dairy industry. He continued operating Burton Sales, LLC until his passing in 2015.

Dallas Burton left the dairy world better than he found it. His vision, energy, and commitment to excellence continue to influence Holstein genetics marketing and dairy media today.
